Treatment of bone cysts and tumours

Cysts and tumours can occur in both the soft tissue and bones. Tumours are usually benign, though malignant changes can also occur, for example in parts of the face exposed to sunlight. To the untrained eye, these often look like birthmarks, and so they must always be examined by a trained medical professional.

Malignant changes may also appear in the oral cavity.Because they are not always clearly visible, they are often noticed in the course of an annual routine check-up carried out by a private dentist.

Changes in the jawbone are often identified as incidental findings in an x-ray.They should always be investigated to rule out the existence of a malignant process.Therapy for all cysts and tumours is prescribed according to the type of ailment, and can be carried out under local or general anaesthesia.
